Salvador Novo was an eccentric and lively person; he emerged on Mexico’s cultural scene during a time of dilemmas and modern definitions that set the country’s artistic direction for the first two thirds of the 20th century. A remarkable urban chronicler, author of a vast collection of literary works, and a master of the mix between acute criticism and irony, Novo was photographed by his contemporaries: Héctor García, Simón Flechine (Semo), José Verde Orive, Casasola M. Madrigal, Manuel Álvarez Bravo y Tina Modotti, among others. He played a leading role in intense events of a private nature that were fervently divulged and enjoyed posing before the camera, or as he called it, the «electronic cage,» something he did with versatility and sincerity.
As part of the 50th Anniversary of the Centro de Estudios de Historia de México Carso, Museo Soumaya. Fundación Carlos Slim will present Salvador Novo Archive, an unexhibited show that brings together the artistic vision of a group of both acclaimed and previously unstudied artists.
Includes: Héctor García, Simón Flechine Semo, Ricardo Salazar, Agustín Maya, Casasola M. Madrigal, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano, Luis G. Serrano, Roberto Montenegro…
