Sixty years after Armando Salas Portugal made his first trip to the Southeast of Mexico, we present Chronicle of a trip to Yucatán, 1946. This exhibit is comprised of 60 photographs that represent the vast framework of this artist’s work and its first encounter with the ancient architecture of the Mayas, the landscapes and the coastal towns of Yucatán and Campeche. In the form of a chronicle, through the images and a letter addressed to his childhood friend, Salas Portugal recounts his emotions and experiences during his trip.

With an acute aesthetic sense and a photographic technique advanced for his period, Salas Portugal regales us with an important iconographic document on the architecture, life and customs of the communities of Yucatán and its emblematic archaeological constructions during the first half of the now distant 20th century.
