Remedies for Absent Document Syndrome is a project by five artists who work with photography archives in Northeastern Mexico. The media featured in this show include photography, installation, video and film. The artists use their own and other people’s photographic archives as raw materials on which they perform actions, proposing alternate, recontextualized, poetic readings of the images. They all put into practice the exercise of collecting, not in the sense of accumulating but in the sense of organizing collected objects according to a kind of system based on personal meaning. They show how essential this relationship is, through appropriation, montage, transpositions and corrections to the images. | Daril Fortis
