Pedro Valtierra, Vision and Testimonyis an exhibit produced by the Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco of the UNAM, exploring crucial chapters in the work of a photojournalist who has captured key images in the recent history of Latin America. Composed of about 150 photographs, the exhibition includes Valtierra’s coverage as a correspondent in different countries: Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Haiti. The images and the documentary material that accompanies it—newspapers, magazines and books belonging to the historical archives of the photographer—are grouped into five central themes: Career Path, Nicaragua, Personal work, Icons and Cuartoscuro, the latter dedicated to photographs of the photojournalism agency founded by Valtierrra in 1986. Through this retrospective, the exhibit presents an approach to contemporary history through the particular vision of this renowned photojournalist.
