Adela Goldbard’s exhibition Para-Allegorie features videos, sculptures and photomurals that refer back to the structural framework of her art practice. She deals with the amassing of newspaper archives, selecting and restaging events described in the Mexican press and visually documenting these allegorical representations. The work that Goldbard has developed over the last several years is based on a keen examination of information and media processes and strategies, their degree of reality or fiction, and the role pictures play in them. Her project is a kind of subtraction, simplification and parodic narration in which her precarious reconstruction of events generates an uncanny feeling, a provocation and an ambiguity that upset our relation to them and our perception, sparking new reflections (as participants and spectators) of Mexico’s troubled sociopolitical context.
