Since its foundation as a museum, the Ex-Convent of San Diego has sheltered a diversity of forms of expression, evincing the relation between different media and ways of looking: oil paintings, photographs, and ideas in movement have served to display fragments of actions that arrest time and space.
Over the last fifteen years, the Laboratorio Arte Alameda has witnessed transformations that have influenced our way of looking. As its collaborators and visitors, we have experienced works that relate art to science and technology—pieces that question everything from their own forms and origins to the limits of our own perception and everyday surroundings. To scrutinize the memory of the space is to peruse a history of formats, media and systems of visualization that have given our images such qualities as mobility, interactivity and reproducibility—essential characteristics in a technologically active world.
In 2015 the opening of the Centro de Documentación Príamo Lozada served as a platform for us to ask questions about a cartography of anonymous points of view, unsigned and unattributed digital images that have been found in our space and that tell a parallel story to that of our venue’s official documentation. | Paola Gallardo
