Moss is an ancient plant that challenges the idea that one needs strong roots in order to prosper. Instead of deep roots, all moss needs is favorable environmental conditions.

Daniela Edburg visited the city of Houston, Texas, for two months. During this period she extended an invitation to people to come crochet «moss» with her, twice a week, while talking and having a drink on the porch of a house. The result of this collective effort is the material basis for the photographs in this exhibition. Edburg presents portraits of the moss knitters (who are now her fictitious family) along with anonymous documents belonging to them and a series of pictures in which the tension between the artificial and the natural landscape becomes pure fiction.

The gallery will also host crochet workshops and an installation of crocheted moss that will be growing for the duration of the show, weather permitting.

* Daniela Edburg did a two month residency at the Cherryhurst House in Houston, Texas.
