documentation céline duval compiles pictures from amateur photo albums, newspapers, magazines, and postcards. It is less an archive or collection than an image bank, based on which various editorial projects are carried out. An example of this is Revue en 4 images [Magazine in 4 Pictures], a monthly publication made up exclusively of amateur photographs. Each issue features a series of images that are based on a stereotype which nonetheless refers back to the model, photographer or piece on which documentation céline duval depends. These are short sequences, ordered by genre and by formal associations, which involve an attitude or relation to given objects or landscapes. Through these photographic clichés, a unity of images is also constituted, but more importantly a unity of people’s moments, gestures and attitudes that are put into circulation here. This project is clearly based on the pleasure we experience both in making photographs and in appearing in them.
