Not having children is a blessed misfortune.
Euripides

The Children I Never Had is about how the notion of not being a father is rendered invisible. It is the materialization of something that is left unsaid, the event no one sees. It is questioning masculinity at forty. It is something that is swept under the carpet, that is not seen as a priority.

This essay introduces questions that have not been posed. It is about uncelebrated birthdays, forgotten experiences. It is about avoiding the gaze of children that never existed, about infancies that never took place. I embody the disoriented men who do not appear in the pictures, in the forgotten memories of manipulated family photo albums. I am the one who destroys family memory to construct a fantasy of what has not been experienced.
