As a continuation of the project entitled Object-Subject, Camera of Curiosities explores the construction of a person’s identity through a collectable object. To make this piece, Camila Cossío focused on the sixteenth-century concept of the cabinet of curiosities, classifying her project into four categories: Naturalia (flora and fauna), itself subdivided into Animalia, Vegetalia and Mineralia; Exotica: exotic flora and fauna; Scientifica: instruments of a scientific nature; and Artificialia: works of art, drawings, antiques, manufactured objects. Cossío analyses the subject’s identity through the personal belongings that compose each of the collections on display. Thus, this exhibition features a series of contemporary cabinets of curiosities that reveal their subjects to be the curators of their own collections, in their own spaces.
