Womankind consists of various series of digital photo-collages: some of the photographs used are archival and were found on the Internet, in magazines or books, and other photographs were taken by the artist herself.
The Womankind series are set primarily in two essential moments in the history of women: the early twentieth century's British suffragette movement, and the 1960s, which saw the mass introduction of the birth-control pill. These events were crucial to women's liberation, transforming their relationship with men.
Womankind resignifies the images that have been used to construct a history of women since the advent of photography. Women have traditionally been relegated to the background within hegemonic, often patronizing narratives. Acha-Kutscher's collages recover a female historical memory, which reflects her political struggle as well as the complexity of her private world.
