Constructions

We see with the eyes, but we see with the brain as well
Oliver Sacks

Fabiola Menchelli is interested in using the language of abstraction in her photography work to explore ideas about perception and space, creating images that seem to present a visibly tangible space that is nonetheless illusory, except in the lens of the camera.

Using different photographic and sculptural techniques, she attempts to transform physical space with light and shadow. She thus challenges our perception, directing light that envelops the surfaces and animates space by trying to transform shadows into solid objects. The interaction between light and shadow transforms her ephemeral installations, generating complex visual spaces that evoke a world that is concrete and yet imaginary, physically tangible and yet as elusive as light itself.
