Process of acclimatization


Rather than go out looking for images, I look for spaces that my body can occupy. Recently, I have not been interested in constructing things as much as in occupying a space and leaving again. I am interested in leftover spaces that are not meant to be utilized. I activate and redefine them by entering them, which is why I use diptychs in order to indicate two different moments in time.


To experience architectural space in this way, defined as it is by the cultural climate, is another method of understanding and acknowledging the public from an individual point of view—to know where you are standing, filling an otherwise empty space.

Calixto Ramírez Correa

→ Bio


Reynosa, 1980. Studied visual art at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" and at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His work has been featured in various group shows in Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Slovenia, Spain, the United States, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico and Uruguay. His five solo shows include Antes de entrar, permita salir and A través. He has received a purchase prize at the Bienal de Arte Emergente de Monterrey 2012, the Jóvenes Creadores grant from the Instituto Tamaulipeco para la Cultura y las Artes (2009) and an honorable mention at the XXVIII Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven 2008. He was artist-in-residence at the Fundación Marcelino Botín. He is currently an artist-in-residence in Rome under the invitation of Jannis Kounellis.
